China Unicom Deploys InnoPath’s Integrated Mobile Device Management Solution
Lifecycle Device Management
Improves User Experience and Eases Introduction
of New Revenue Generating Services
Sunnyvale, California
and Beijing, China, January 31, 2008 – China
Unicom, the second largest mobile operator
in the world, has selected InnoPath’s Integrated Mobile
Device Management (iMDM) solution for firmware-over-the-air
updates (FOTA), advanced customer care, and
security. These mobile device management applications
will be tied together through iMDM’s
unique workflow capability, permitting China
Unicom to adapt the solution on-the-fly to
its business processes. This deployment is
a testament to the scalability, stability,
and Open Mobile Alliance Device Management
(OMA-DM) standards compliance of InnoPath’s
server platform.
"As the China Unicom subscriber base has
grown and we have enhanced the sophistication
of our value added service offerings, we see
a growing need for Mobile Device Management,“ said
Mr.Liu Ninnin, GM of Telecom Products at Neusoft,
the system integrator. “After a thorough
evaluation, we chose InnoPath integrated mobile
device management due to its maturity and reliability.
By integrating InnoPath technology into their
network, China Unicom will be able to provide
subscribers with complete handset lifecycle management,
ensuring a better user experience while at the
same time easing the introduction of new revenue
generating services.”
China Unicom has upwards of 150 million subscribers.
Most analysts predict China to be one of the
fastest growing regions for mobile growth and
investment in the coming years based on upward
mobility and the availability of highly functional
low-cost handsets. The ability to properly serve
this new subscriber base in a cost-effective
way is critical to operator success. China Unicom
is therefore embracing mobile device management,
as the technology evolves from FOTA to providing
a platform for new capabilities such as security
and customer care.
"We are pleased to have been selected by
China Unicom to provide our next generation Mobile
Device Management solution,” said Uday
Nagendran, Vice President, APAC for InnoPath. “With
explosive growth in subscribers in one of the
fastest growing international regions for mobile
communications, service delivery is becoming
exponentially more complex. China Unicom will
now be well positioned to manage this complexity
as more low-cost, feature-rich handsets combined
with new services emerge in the market.”
InnoPath is unique in its
ability to offer the network operator a pre-integrated
server and client Mobile Device Management
solution, in addition to third-party interoperability
via Open Mobile Alliance Device Management
(OMA-DM) standards. The company expects Customer
Care, Enterprise Device Management, and ease
of deployment through wider adoption of OMA-DM
standards to be major drivers for MDM growth
throughout 2008. InnoPath’s server is
deployed at major operators including AT&T,
KDDI, Sprint, and Verizon. Client deployments
include Foxconn, Kyocera, LG, NEC, Panasonic,
Pantech, Samsung, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony Ericsson,
and Toshiba.
InnoPath will be demonstrating its end-to-end
MDM solution, including customer care, security
management, and lifecycle application management
at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona,
Feb 11-14. Additional information is available
